ON FOREIGN TAKEOVERS

Foreign Take-Overs in the Nordic Countries

mandalaForeign takeovers - competence gain or competence drain (FOTON, for Foreign Takeovers in the Nordic countries) is a project under the Nordic Innovation Centre’s Forum for Innovation Policies. The project involves research teams from all the Nordic countries, and was finalized by the end of 2004.

Main objectives

The main objective of FOTON was to study how foreign takeovers of firms in the Nordic countries affect local innovation capabilities, and how this issue is approached by policy makers. By doing so, the project provides Nordic policy makers with a better knowledge base for formulating policies in this field.

The researchers

The FOTON project team is made up of researchers from the following institutions:

  • The Department of Manufacturing Engineering and Management at the Technical University of Denmark
  • VTT Technology Studies in Finland
  • Rannís - the Icelandic Centre for Research
  • The Swedish Institute for Growth Policy Studies
  • NIFU STEP (previously STEP Centre for Innovation Research in Norway)

NIFU STEP is the leading partner.

The project team is based on the consortium behind the GoodNIP project on good practices in Nordic innovation policies (under the Nordic Industrial Fund’s SME Forum, 2002).
