Sammenslåing av forskningsinstituttene Norsk institutt for studier av forskning og utdanning (NIFU) og STEP Senter for innovasjonsforskning.

Den 1. mai 2004 forenes forskningsinstituttene NIFU og STEP. Den nye institusjonen vil bli landets ledende forskningsinstitutt for studier av kunnskap, utdanning, forskning og innovasjon, med rundt 80 medarbeidere.
